ARTIST

Kat Melheim is a multi-media artist, specializing in the Norwegian folk art of Rosemaling. In addition to her work with Rosemaling, Kat also creates artwork with pen and ink, marker, collage, oil paint, sculpture, writing, and mixing pigments from soil and clay.

ROSEMALER

Kat became interested in Rosemaling as a way to connect with her family's Norwegian heritage. As a young adult living away from her immediate family, Kat began to feel the desire to better understand and embrace her ancestry. Unfortunately she no longer had living grandparents whom she could ask about family stories and traditions. So in 2013 Kat began studying Rosemaling under the direction of Rosemaling teacher (now a Vesterheim Gold Medalist) Louise Bath. Kat took individual lessons from Louise on and off for 4 years, as well as attending other Rosemaling courses and seminars in Colorado and Iowa. She continues to paint Rosemaling as a hobby, most often painting commissions for family, friends, and clients.

FOUNDER/EDITOR

In 2018, Kat founded an art and coffee publication called Coffee People Zine, which celebrates the creativity of the coffee community. Coffee People is an award-winning quarterly print journal filled with art, poetry, photography, writing, articles, short stories, drawings, paintings, and other work by coffee people around the world.
